Important Things You Need to Know When Moving
A: The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) monitors all licensing for all moving companies in the U.S. Please visit the below website to ensure your mover is properly licensed and insured: https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/protect-your-move
A: Usually all moving companies prefer to move between Mon-Fri, as the weekends may be a little more expensive. Some companies do not conduct moves on Sundays or holidays. If they do conduct moves on holidays, the rates are usually adjusted to reflect this. Please be sure to ask your hired moving company if they facilitate moves on these days.
A: Yes, you are required to be provided a copy of your contract with your moving company, all receipts, and a copy of My Moving Rights & Responsibilities (see link below). This is known as a Bill of Landing. Also, make sure your estimates are “Binding.” A binding moving estimate is a contract that details the exact cost based on the services you request at the time of the estimate. Additional charges may apply if services are added before or at the time your move is conducted. My Moving Rights & Responsibilities Link: https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/protect-your-move/consumer-rights
A: Hiring a company to facilitate your move removes all headache and coordination on your end. You, as the customer, do not have to do any logistical work, long haul driving, loading, unloading, packing (in some cases), not to mention lodging, food, and excess fuel costs.
A: Be sure to research the companies you speak to and check their reviews and online presence for good business practices, to make the most educated choice.
